WHAT IS COSMETIC TATTOOING?
Cosmetic tattooing consists of procedures that enhance or alter body features using a tattoo machine to produce a desired effect. All brow and lip blushing services are considered “semi-permanent” tattoos, as the pigment is planted into the bottom layer of the epidermis. Because of this, brows and lips tend to fade within 1-3 years. 6-8 week touch up’s following your first appointment and annual touch-up’s are strongly recommended to maintain the color and saturation of your treated area. Permanent eyeliner is implanted into the dermis of the skin, which does not fade significantly over time. However, eyeliner can change in color over time as the tattoo ages. Because of this, clients can come in for a color boost if desired for their eyeliner. 6-8 week touch up’s are recommended following your first appointment.
POSSIBLE RISKS, HAZARDS, OR COMPLICATIONS
Pain: All cosmetic tattoo procedures have the possibility to be associated with pain, each client is different. Topical anesthetics do not work on everyone. I cannot accept responsibility if the area to be treated does not respond to the numbing cream. Each individual is different according to skin type. Some clients report the area to be completely numb, while others may experience some discomfort
Infection: Infection is very unusual. The areas treated must be kept clean, and only freshly cleaned hands should touch the areas. See “After Care” sheet for instruction on care
Uneven Pigmentation: This can result from poor healing, infection, bleeding, or many other causes. Your follow-up appointment will likely correct any uneven appearance
Asymmetry: Every effort will be made to avoid asymmetry, but our faces are not symmetrical so adjustments may be needed during the follow-up session to correct any unevenness
Excessive Swelling or Bruising: Some people bruise or swell more than others. Ice packs may help reduce the swelling. The swelling or bruising typically disappears in 1-5 days. Some people don’t bruise or swell at all
Anesthetics: Topical anesthetics are used to numb the area to be tattooed. Lidocaine, Prilocaine, Benzocaine, Tetracaine, and/or Epinephrine cream and/or liquid are used. Some anesthetics also contain other ingredients such as aloe vera, vitamin E, lecithin, and allantoin. If you are allergic to any of these, please inform me now
MRI: Because pigments used in Permanent Cosmetic procedures contain inert oxides, a low level magnet may be required if you need to be scanned by an MRI machine. You must inform your MRI Technician of any tattoos or permanent cosmetics
Allergic Reaction: Although an allergy is unusual, there is always a possibility of an unknown allergy to the pigments and materials used during procedure. If a reaction does occur after your procedure, please contact your doctor as soon as possible
Skin Disorders: If you have Alopecia or any other skin pigmentation disorders, you may require extra treatments to get desired results
PRE-CARE
Do not use any vitamin A products / retinol for at least one month prior to your procedure
No botox from the nose up within three weeks of your brow or eyeliner procedure. No botox from the nose down within three weeks of your lip blushing procedure
Do not get any type of facial including microdermabrasion, microneedling, fraxel laser, chemical peels within two weeks of your procedure (mild face washes prior to procedure are fine)
No sunburned facial skin within 2 weeks of your procedure
No facial hair removal services within 1 week of your procedure (waxing and electrolysis above the nose for brows and liner; below the nose for lip blushing)
Do not take any natural blood thinners within 1 week of your procedure (fish oils and vitamin E)
No alcohol or caffeine within 24 hours of your procedure
DAY OF PROCEDURE
Do not workout
Do not take any blood thinners
Try your best to come with a make-up/lotion/fragrance-free face
AFTER-CARE
Try to avoid getting your cosmetic tattoo wet for at least 24 hours after the procedure
Apply Aquaphor, AD&D or any other similar moisturizing ointment on your cosmetic tattoo 2-3 times a day. Aquaphor is provided in your after care kit
Keep the brow area clean by using a natural fragrance-free cleanser such as fragrance-free Dial Antibacterial Soap, Cetaphil cleanser or Bactine 3 times a day
Air dry or lightly pat your brows dry with a cotton round
Continue these aftercare steps for 7-14 days as everyone heals at a different pace
HEALING TIPS
Do not use a washcloth or anything abrasive on the tattooed area during the healing process
Do not scratch, pick, or rub the tattooed area while they are healing; Let any scabbing or peeling of the treated area naturally fall of on their own, as picking can result in infection and loss of pigment
Avoid sleeping on your face for at least 7-14 days
Avoid makeup/tints on for at least 7-10 days (other makeup that does not touch the treated area is permitted)
Avoid direct sunlight and tanning beds for 2 weeks (wear a hat or cover your face!)
Avoid hot tubs, steam rooms, pools, lakes/rivers, and hot yoga during the healing process
Avoid sweaty exercise for 1 week
JUST A REMINDER!
BROWS:
Healing is a process that takes time. Some skin will heal faster than others, some skin will retain pigment longer. Everyone is different. Your lifestyle, skin type, tanning, and how well you follow aftercare plays a huge role in your permanent makeup outcome. Your overall brow outcome is also decided by your decision to make a very recommended 4-6 week touch up and annual touch ups as well. I like to think of the brow healing as a 4 stage process:
Stage 1: very dark, bold, large brows that may appear uneven
Stage 2: the brows begin shedding, flaking, scabbing
Stage 3: the brows appear they “lost” their color
Stage 4: the color returns and the brows heal 30-40% lighter and thinner
Aftercare is vital! Neglecting or trying to rush the healing process will result in less than satisfactory results
EYELINER:
NO eyeliner will be tattooed in the waterline, as this can cause infection and complications with retaining pigment
Permanent eyeliner will have some itching and flaking, resulting in a lightened appearance of the eyeliner initially → color will begin to return over the course of a few days to a couple of weeks following scabbing/peeling
Each person holds eyeliner differently, which is why 6-8 week touch-ups are included
Keep aquaphor on your new eyeliner tattoo, 2-3 times a day
Do not put makeup over top of your new eyeliner until it is fully healed (around 2 weeks)
LIP BLUSHING:
If you are prone to cold sores, lip blushing may cause a cold sore flare-up
It’s recommended that you seek an antiviral medication from your primary care provider and begin taking it 3-5 days prior to your appointment
If you do not take an antiviral prior to your appointment and a cold sore appears, the skin in the affected cold sore area may not hold color as well → OTC cold sore medication can be used to manage any cold sores after lip blushing
If you are NOT prone to cold sores, no extra precaution is needed
Keep your lips moisturized 3-5 days prior to your appointment → this will help with color retention while healing
Lips heal fairly quickly compared to eyeliner and brows (around 3-5 days)
Day 1: Lips will be swollen and appear bold - ice can be used to help with swelling
Day 2: Swelling begins to subside, and lips appear darker in color than the day of the procedure
Day 3-5: Lips become extremely dry → continue to keep them moisturized with Aquaphor
Day 5-14: Lips may appear uneven in color, this is normal! Allow time for the color to reappear and even out

The pigment lines used during the semi-permanent makeup procedure are Evenflo, Tina Davies, and Permablend, all manufactured by Permablend. These pigment lines have no known reports of being unsafe to use when in association with MRI scans
