Semi Permanent & Permanent Makeup FAQ’s

BROWS:

  • Q: How long do semi-permanent brows last? A: Brows typically last at best results for 1-2 years depending on skin type, aftercare, environmental factors, and if a 6-8 week touch-up is completed after your first session.

  • Q: Why should I do a 6-8 week touch-up? A: Everyone’s brows heal differently. Because of this, some people may heal patchy or may not hold color as well as others. In addition, the artist (Hannah) works conservatively on the first session to see how your pigment holds in your brows and to see how the color heals on your brows, as some may heal ashy colored or too warm.

  • Q: Why do my brows look warm after the first appointment? A: Hannah adds a modifier color (orange) to the pigment being used to ensure that your brows do not heal ashy. If they heal warm, this can be color corrected at your 6-8 week touch-up, as warm-colored brows are easier to change than ashy colored brows.

  • Q: Why do brows fade over time? A: Brows fade over time because, unlike a traditional tattoo where pigment is deposited into the dermis of the skin, brow pigment is deposited into the bottom layer of the epidermis, which allows the color to fade over time. This is also why it is important to do touch up’s annually or every other year (depending on how well your skin holds pigment) to keep your brows at their best!

  • Q: How are the shape and color of my brows determined at my appointment? A: Hannah uses a methodical mapping method that allows for creating as much symmetry as possible based on your natural brow shape. If you do not have brow hair, your brow bone structure will be followed instead. The color of your brows is determined by both your natural brow color and hair color. If you do not want your brows to be the same color as your brow hair or hair on your head, please notify Hannah, as we can change the color!

  • Q: Is getting your brows done painful? A: All tattoos can be associated with pain, as each person has a different pain tolerance. Two topical numbing agents are used that contain Lidocaine. The first numbing used is a cream that is used on the skin before the skin is broken open. The second numbing is a gel that is used on the skin once the skin has been broken open. Most clients report little to no pain; some even fall asleep! Toward the end of your appointment, it is not uncommon for your brows to begin to feel slightly sore. Over the course of a couple of days, this sore feeling will go away. The best way to describe the pain after the procedure is the feeling of a sunburn localized to your brows!

LIP BLUSHING:

  • Q: How long does lip blushing last? A: Each client’s skin, aftercare, and environmental factors are different. If your free touch up is included, typically it lasts around 1-2 years before an annual - 2 year touch up is needed.

  • Q: I am prone to cold sores, does this affect lip blushing? A: Yes it does, but the good news is, antiviral medications can be taken prior to receiving and after your lip blushing procedure, which should be provided by your doctor/PCP.

  • Q: Does lip blushing hurt? A: The pain associated with lip blushing varies from person to person, as each client has a different pain tolerance level. Because the lips are one of the most vascular locations on our bodies, lip blushing is typically associated with more pain than other procedures, but is managed with two topical numbing agents. Most clients state that the procedure is very tolerable, in relation to pain.

  • Q: How do you choose my lip blushing color? A: The pigment color chosen for lip blushing is done using two different factors: the color of your bare lips and your personal lip preference color. For those that have very cool toned lips or hyperpigmented lips, color neutralization typically has to be performed to provide a nice base color that can be tattooed over at a touch-up with a target color. This means a warmer color must be used on the lips first if you are someone with cool-toned lips or hyperpigmented lips. Typically those with darker skin variations experience hyperpigmentation than those with lighter skin variations.

  • Q: Does lip blushing make my lips bigger? A: Yes and No! Lip blushing is only tattooed within your natural lip tissue, not the skin surrounding the outside of your lips. For those with hypopigmentation on their lip tissue, lip blushing can make your lips appear bigger due to the color being filled in where color was naturally lost on the lip tissue. For those that do not have hypopigmentation, like lipstick, lip blushing can give the illusion that your lips are bigger!

  • Q: How long does lip blushing take to heal? A: Because the tissue on our lips has such a fast cell turnover rate, much like the inside of our mouth, lip blushing only takes around 3-5 days to fully peel and 2-4 weeks to see the true healed result of your lips after your procedure.

EYELINER:

  • Q: How long does eyeliner take to heal? A: Eyeliner takes approximately the same amount of time as brows take to heal, so around 1-2 weeks of scabbing and peeling of the treated area and 2-4 weeks to see the true result. Like brows, when eyeliner finishes scabbing and peeling, the result may seem light and patchy. This is totally normal, as it takes time for the pigment implanted to resurface through the new layer of your skin. It’s important to understand that eyeliner may still heal slightly patchy or light colored after the first procedure, which is why making your 6-8 week touch-up appointment is important to fill in any areas that did not hold pigment as well as others.

  • Q: Does getting your eyeliner tattooed hurt? A: The pain associated with permanent eyeliner varies from person to person, as each client has a different pain tolerance level. Pain is managed with two topical numbing agents. Most clients state that the procedure is very tolerable, in relation to pain.

  • Q: Do you only tattoo eyeliner black? A: NO, eyeliner can theoretically be tattooed any color that you want it to be tattooed! Most people opt for a more black or black-brown color, as that’s what’s most suitable for their skin tone and desired look.

  • Q: Having a needle so close to my eye seems scary, is it safe to do? A: Permanent eyeliner is completely safe, as our trained technician Hannah is extremely cautious when tattooing around the eye area. It’s important that clients remain very still during this procedure because the needle is close to an important organ system. If Hannah feels you are moving/jerking around too much, to the point that the procedure is unsafe, the procedure will not be continued for your safety! Please understand this is not something that we have experienced any issues with, but this procedure is taken very seriously and all precautions are taken to ensure the safety of your actual eye.

  • Q: Will you tattoo my waterline? A: NO! Tattooing the waterline is very dangerous for multiple reasons. Being that a needle is so close to your eye, any small movements of the client could result in a needle puncture of the eye. In addition, tattooing the waterline is associated with eye infections, which we definitely do not want. If you want your waterline tattooed, you will be turned away from the service for your own safety.
